If the “actual footage” used in this film is real, then there’s something going on up in Alaska even more frightening than the rise of Sarah Palin. Recently widowed backwoods shrink Dr. Abigail Tyler (Milla Jovovich) finds that many of her patients have dreamt of a mysterious barn owl outside their window.
After hypnosis, one patient kills his family and another has a psychotic alien-abduction episode. The supposed taped documentation of all this is truly creepy (though the footage does fizz out suspiciously whenever anything supernatural happens).
Filmmaker Olatunde Osunsanmi, however, does such a clumsy job of arguing that ancient Sumerian aliens are causing havoc in Nome that he spoils any chance he might have had to make a decent scary movie. His overwrought technique involves aping the archival footage with actors portraying the “real” characters and then juxtaposing the two in split-screen. It just shows how bad his actors are.
