The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a natural fit for the gaming world — no pop culture property has translated from the comic book to the console more effectively. It didn’t hurt that Shredder, their nemesis, seemed lifted out of some Japanese designer’s sketchbook. In an age where everything was turned into a sidescrolling beat-em-up, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles IV: Turtles in Time managed to bring something unique to the table: a battle against Shredder from Shredder’s point of view, where you, the turtle, had to use a specific move to hurl the disposable foot soldiers at his battle tank. You’d be amazed by how fun this was. And yeah, Battletoads did something similar, but nobody liked that game. It was too hard.
