Who's Your Caddy?

The gamut of taste

VIDEO: Watch the trailer for Who's Your Caddy?

In this big-screen vehicle for pop sensation Antwan Andre Patton (a/k/a Big Boi from Outkast), nearly every element of the plot rips off the mangy 1980 comedy Caddyshack, right down to Ted Knight’s controlling country-club patron and Rodney Dangerfield’s nouveau riche upstart. In a stretch, Patton tackles the Dangerfield role as C-Note, a rap mogul who applies for membership at the elite Carolina Pines club and is turned down by the snooty head (Jeffrey Jones). Flush with green and bling, C-Note buys up a manse that happens to own the 17th hole. A war of wills and cultures ensues. Who’s Your Caddy? isn’t so much black vs. WASP as it is those-who-dance-to-a-different beat vs. the-elitist-assholes-who-want-to-bar-them-at-all-costs. Patton shows plenty of charisma, and writer/director Don Michael Paul runs the gamut of taste, from C-Note’s touching back story to the requisite fart and dick jokes.
