VIDEO: Watch the trailer for Feast of Love.

Feast of Love
is a title that promises either extra helpings of the mysteries of the human heart or a smorgasbord of multiple positions. Director Robert Benton (The Human Stain) tends toward the latter, taking his camera repeatedly between the sheets in a movie that, however well made, is more likely to earn raves from Mr. Skin than to please fans of the insightful novel by Charles Baxter on which it’s based. Benton has some potentially interesting intersecting stories to tell: a coffee-shop owner (Greg Kinnear) who remains upbeat through one humiliating romance after another; a professor (Morgan Freeman) coping with the loss of a son; a real-estate agent (Radha Mitchell) who can’t deny her cold-blooded nature. But only the romance of two brittle twentysomethings (Toby Hemingway and Alexa Davalos) breaks free of the faux profundity and tedium that swallow up this feast whenever the characters leave the bedroom.
