Boston has always had a uniquely strong tie to Brit bands: UK bands start their tours here, get more radio play here, and just generally seem to have an easy rapport with Boston audiences. And Boston bands — the Pixies and Throwing Muses come to mind — get treated like royalty in the UK, often long before anyone in the US has ever heard of them. Fenway Recordings head Mark Kates was there. “On that tour, at the end of the shows Morrissey would invite the whole audience up on stage. So it was one of those cases where the atmosphere contributed to the overall experience. It was just mayhem. It was important and significant.”
