Review: Sorority Row

Inadvertent murder leads to inadvertent camp

You can't fault young actresses (here including Rumer Willis, the daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis, and Briana Evigan, who's nearly Moore's double) for jumping into a mindless movie like this one from Stewart Hendler. They get to play catty caricatures and parade around in skimpy push-ups while hoping this slasher bunk will lead to something more.

The set-up — a sexting prank leads to an unwitting murder that a septuplet of sorority sisters decide to cover up — begins as innocuous coed melodrama but then veers into inadvertent camp when a mysterious robed figure shows up and starts to off the conspirators. It's Scream minus the wit and verve, with poor Carrie Fisher lost as the cantankerous house mother.

And the most puzzling thing? Sorority is billed as an adaptation of "Seven Sisters, an original screenplay by [executive producer] Mark Rosum." Does that mean it was a good idea that got hacked up or a hack job that got butchered?

The title of this thriller from Dominic Sena ( Swordfish ) is supposed to describe a brutal Antarctic storm, but what's more likely to come to mind is the goop the film's phalanx of writers used to blot out boos-boos while revising the script.

David R. Ellis, who helmed Final Destination 2 , pretty much reworks the exact same shebang here.
