Since March, artist Lola Baltzell has devoted her time to dismantling one of the greatest novels of all time, Leo Tolstoy’s War and Peace. Repurposing the Russian text became the “War and Peace Project”, a collection of 300 seven-by-five-inch collages she’s created with her “Team Tolstoy” (Lynn Waskelis, Adrienne Wetmore, Emma Rhodes, Lucy Zahner Montgomery, Otto Mayr, and Lucy Arrington). They’re showing the inspired results on a blog, posting one new image a day, and in an exhibition that opens with a Russian-themed reception at Atlantic Works Gallery.
