When it comes to alternative-rock reunions that don't suck, Boston's had a string of comebacks (Mission of Burma, Pixies, Lemonhea-- . . . uh, Throwing Muses?) that's as impressive as our recent spurt of pro-sports championships. DINOSAUR JR hasn't fucked with the trend, and we don't expect them to start anytime soon. On the eve of the release of their new album FARM, they've unveiled plans for a national fall tour that includes two nights at the Middle East Downstairs (fuck yes) and . . . kicks off with a late-summer bacchanal on the dunes at the Wellfleet Beachcomber. For those of us who remember the mid-90s Boston indie-rock weekender blowouts that the Beachcomber used to host, this just doubled our nostalgia kick.
True story: these days, Lou Barlow hates metal and loves Lady Gaga. We believe this bodes well for his latest solo release, Goodnight Unknown, which he'll be supporting by opening for himself throughout most of the Dino tour (yes, Cambridge; no Beachcomber) backed by a new band he's dubbed the Missingmen. We're stoked.
